Every spring, SMAS accepts applications for a vocal music scholarship to an area senior with plans to continue their love of singing at a higher education school of their choice. This scholarship is in memory of a past SMAS artistic director, Charles Facer. “Chuck” was the director of SMAS from 1982-2000.
The SMAS Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Julia Gardner-Pickens is the 2025 SMAS Vocal Music Scholarship recipient. Julia is a graduate of Hollister High School, Hollister, MO, with an impressive amount of experience in vocal music under the direction of Lauren Reedy. Activities include concert choir, solo contest awards, state solo contest awards, singing the national anthem at multiple baseball games and basketball games, show choir, and musical theatre.
Understanding that music has the power to heal, uplift, and unite people, Julia is pursuing music education to make an impact on the lives or others. She is attending Southeast Missouri State University. Congratulations, Julia!
